Sunshine

Bella River

Make me laugh, make me think, make me cry, or make me dance. These are the ways in which artists win a place in my heart. After all, what is art if not an instrument of insight and emotion? I believe that music should lead us to a deeper understanding of life and positively influence our perspective. Bella River did just that. Though they have only publicly released one song at this point, Bella River seems to have it all. From the first time I read the title of their new single, Sunshine, this band had my attention. As the first few seconds of the song played I began to smile, and I did not stop smiling even after the song had ended. I listened again several times, laughing and dancing around the room, thankful that no one was there to see me. Sunshine quickly established itself as the #1 song on my personal summer playlist.

For fans looking to learn more about Bella River, information can be tough to find. A somewhat obscure Facebook page gives away little but a few web links, yet dedicated fans have been promoting Sunshine at a rapid rate. I am honored to have had the opportunity to dig in with Natalie, Bella River’s lead vocalist, to learn a little bit more about the band.

INTERVIEW

1. Your single Sunshine has such a feel-good sound! What influenced you to write this song?

[Natalie] Thank you, we were striving to write a song that would capture the exhilarating feeling that summer time brings. Sunshine is about good times, good company and dancing until the sun goes down with prospects of a new found flame. This song is unlike anything we’ve written before as we indulged ourselves in an overtly rhythmic style layered up with some funk bass and vocal melodies that are hard not to sing along to on a summer’s day.

2. What are your plans for the future?

[Natalie] Well it was an impulsive move for us to release Sunshine as our first track as to us at the time it was a demo simply recorded in our guitarist’s house, but the response has been very delightful. However, there has been a lot of interest from local and national radio stations, and Sunshine is currently being played all over the world! Currently we are working towards our next release which we are very excited to share. Our up and coming track displays a very distinctive sound to which we feel most at home with, but still holds that similar character that Sunshine has.

3. What is your overall vision for Bella River?

[Natalie] Our vision is to create a life of liberation within Bella River. We want people to come into our world feeling they can truly express themselves through our music and art. We want to be part of a movement where there is no judgment about who you are or what you choose to do. Music is music, so lets dance.

4. Can you give us a few trivia facts about the band?

[Natalie]

• The two dancers in our video for Sunshine are Al Minns and Leon James, they were an American Lindy Hop and jazz dance duo in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
• Our college music teacher Simon Barnard features on Sunshine playing bass.
• Singer Bing legally changed his name for personal reasons.
• Singer Natalie often draws comic illustrations and is incorporating this into Bella River’s future projects
• There is actually a ‘Bella River’ in the world. It is is a tributary of the Casin River in Romania. Our name was actually inspired by a Stevie Nicks EP.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Sunshine is quickly gaining attention all over the world. In July, fellow artists/musician Surreal remixed his own version of the song reaching nearly 5,000 plays in less than 2 weeks. I have no doubts that Bella River will continue to grow in popularity over the coming months. Once again I find myself proud to be associated with artists of such high quality. My advice to you? Go give them a listen and let a little Sunshine into your life!

Until next time, I’m Chancy Johnson helping to bring them~
